These volunteers visit patients at Royal Jubilee Hospital on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. We tell patients about our program and collect their name, phone number and email address in order that our Coordinator can contact them later to fill our classes. Volunteers are required to do two, three hour shifts a month in a regular rotation. Full training is provided. These positions appeal to people who feel comfortable conversing with people they do not know.
We are registered as a non-profit society and have regular 90 minute meetings 4 times per year. We use standard rules of order to oversee the running of the program. So if you have experience with efficiently run meetings, this may be for you.
We try to have each of our classes run as efficiently as possible so all participants get the maximum benefit. Our facilitators work as a pair and usually do 2 sets of classes per year. That requires a commitment for one night a week for seven consecutive weeks. Facilitating experience is an asset.
